Language Disorders

Individuals with language disorders tend to experience difficulty in producing and/or processing oral language. This may present as word finding issues, grammatical errors, poor sentence structure, weak vocabulary knowledge/use, and difficulty producing or understanding narratives.  These individuals may also struggle with non-verbal aspects of communication, such as understanding figurative language and inferencing. These deficits can contribute to social-emotional and academic challenges if left untreated.

Literacy Disorders

Language and literacy disorders commonly co-occur and can have a reciprocal relationship, especially as a a child gets older.  Literacy disorders can involve challenges in word recognition, decoding, reading fluency, reading comprehension, spelling, and written expression. These deficits can also be a result of dyslexia, a language-based learning disorder, which requires intensive, systematic intervention.

Getting Started

1

Evaluation

After we have received a referral from your child's provider, we will schedule an evaluation to identify strengths and areas of need.  Finding the root deficit areas will help inform our therapy plan so that we can start working toward meaningful and functional goals.

2

Review Meeting

1-2 weeks following the evaluation, you will meet with the therapist to review the evaluation report, assessment results, therapy recommendations, and provide input about future therapeutic goals.

3

Therapy Services

We will only complete an evaluation if we know that we have a spot on our schedule for your child, so rest assured that therapy can begin as soon as we finalize our report and complete our review meeting. We'll work out therapy length and frequency based on your child's needs.

Allie Walsh, MA, CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist, Owner

Allie is a speech-language pathologist (SLP) and owner of Alpine Pediatric Therapy. Allie was born and raised in Alaska and attended undergraduate and graduate school at Western Washington University. After finishing her schooling in Washington, Allie was thrilled to return home to Alaska to begin her career as an SLP. Allie has worked in acute care, inpatient rehab, and outpatient settings. Allie's speciality areas include pediatric language and literacy disorders, including dyslexia. Allie strongly values evidence-based practice and continuous learning and has earned the Award for Continuing Education (ACE) from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.  In her free time, Allie spends time with her wonderful husband, family, and friends and enjoys running, skiing, and hiking in our beautiful state.

Miss Allie has been a true blessing to my son and his success.  She has dedicated so much time and effort into personalizing her treatment and therapy to fit his needs.  My son is Autistic, ADHD, and has Receptive-Expressive Language Disorder.  With all of that bunched together, she was able to build a bond with my son and with only two-three sessions per week, we saw a TREMENDOUS difference!  His grades jumped from C’s to A’s in just 1 quarter in school, and his speech was a night and day difference!  Truly thankful for Miss Allie!
